Our super durable crew medium weight socks is built on the same 100% merino wool yarn body yarn as our classic hiking sock - but with one critical upgrade: “UHMWPE-reinforced toe and heel areas.” UHMWPE (Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene) is one of the most abrasion-resistant fibers on earth - used in body armor and industrial rope. We use it where your socks need it most.

Like its enhanced sibling, this sock has UHMWPE woven into the heel and toe — the two spots that take the hardest beating on any hike. That means it will outlast standard socks by a margin you will notice.
The difference is the cushion. This one is medium weight: cushion underfoot, toe, and heel. Balanced protection — enough for day hikes and overnight trips, but not so thick that it feels like overkill on a warm afternoon. It is the most versatile cushion level we make.
