Are these socks really 100% merino?
The yarn is 100% merino wool — that's the part that touches your feet. But no sock is made of 100% wool alone; every sock needs nylon and spandex to keep its shape and last. Our socks are up to 84% merino wool. The rest is what makes them last.
How do I wash them? Can I use the dryer?
Wash cold, inside out, and air dry. That's the whole rule. Heat is what damages wool — a hot dryer shrinks the fibers and makes them stiff over time. If you only have a dryer, use the lowest heat setting and take them out while they're still slightly damp. An occasional low-heat dry won't ruin them; doing it every week will.
Will these work in warm weather?
It depends on the weight you choose. Our heavy cushion socks are built for cold: winter hikes, shoulder-season backpacking, days at elevation. Our light and medium weights handle warmer days better. Matching the sock to the temperature is the fastest way to keep your feet comfortable all year.
What happens if they wear out?
We back every pair with our Hike Further Guarantee. If your socks don't hold up, we'll replace them. No fine print, no receipt hunting. We make socks we'd want to walk a long way in — and we stand behind them the same way.
What if I'm between sizes?
If you're between sizes, size up. Wool stretches slightly with wear, and a sock that's a touch roomy is more comfortable than one that's tight. The crew height should sit comfortably below the calf — no bunching, no tight band.
